1.Flame Retardant Mechanism

When heated, Magnesium Hydroxide For Cable Compounds decomposes, releasing water vapor that acts as a protective gas. The resulting heat-resistant layer—composed of Magnesium Hydroxide For Cable Compounds and carbonized polymer—forms a barrier on the polymer surface, inhibiting further combustion and reducing smoke density.


2.Physical & Chemical Properties

  • Appearance: White powder with hexagonal or amorphous sheet-like crystals.

  • Aqueous solution: Alkaline, with a relative density of 2.36 g/cm³.

  • Solubility:

  • Soluble in dilute acids and ammonium salt solutions.

  • Nearly insoluble in water (0.0009 g/100 g at 18°C) and alcohol.

  • Stability:

  • Absorbs atmospheric CO₂.

  • Decomposes at 350°C into magnesium oxide (MgO) and water.

  • Above 500°C, complete dehydration yields MgO.


3.Functional Role in Polymers
